LOL. I just woke up and didn't even notice that specification.

Against a jab, I'll generally use one of the outside entries. But it still depends on my relationship to them. In general, if I can see the inside of their arm, then I go inside. If I can't, then I go outside. Of course, this has to have been drilled to the point where it's not a conscious differentiation - my eyes take the input and my body reacts without any concious decision. At this point in my development, I usually make the right call and don't get hit ... but even a monkey can fall out of a tree sometimes

        Sambo
        Fong-wei-do

I really love the SILAT .. thats the one I Want to master one day!!

Like i said I got to get a teacher who knows silat in and out. Gelinas the man so far.

Maphilindo, or mande muda are #1 in my books.. I think since im only 21 I have a head start on most people in silat, since my teachers were in there 30 when they first started learning.

Cool. I was 23 when I started Sikal. Part of me wishes I could have started it sooner but I realize that without the 15 years experience I had in other things like Okinawan Karate and TKD, I don't think I'd have really appreciated the Sikal as quickly or as well. I don't even know that I'd have stuck with it if I hadn't had that prior background. So, for me, I came to it when it was right for me and it was like coming home.

I think you'll do well with Gelinas (as I said, I've not met him personally yet but have heard good things about him) - but I think you'll also enjoy working with and will learn a lot from Randall Goodwin there, too.

BTW, I'm going to be in your neck of the woods on 4/2 and am hoping to get together with Randall myself. And, if possible meet Mr. Gelinas. If you're around, maybe we could hook up then, too. Unless I've got my Canadian cities confused - you're all in Montreal, right? If you're interested and available, send me an e-mail at gurumike@impactacademy.com

I'll be contacting Randall in the next couple of days to see if he'll be around.

I'll have to contact Randall and see if he'll be available. Hopefully someone will be available. Otherwise I'll be stuck with nothing to do while my wife is in her cheesemaking class

A shame I can't make it to your area, though. I'd be very interested in meeting Gelinas and Maidment just because I've heard good stuff about both of them. And I'd be very interested in meeting Buzz since we've had some e-correspondence in various forums and e-mail over the years but have never met in person.

Ah hah. Got it. I thought you were going to go train with Gelinas at his school Now I get it.

I'm not sure where Buzz is these days, either. I don't think I've had any correspondence with him in a while - or if I have, I didn't notice where he was living.

My recommendation would be not to train to become a guru. Just train and strive to improve - no matter how small the improvement - each day. You'll get to "guru" in good time but it won't be a "goal" that you've achieved. It'll just be a recognition of your improvement and you'll already be in the mentality of "improve a little each day" so you'll just keep improving a little each day. Your improvement each day might come in the form of a new technique. Learning something new about an old technique. Improving your ability to do a technique. Improving your ability to teach something. Or it may be an improvement that has absolutely nothing to do with the MA. But by improving a little each day, you constantly progress without ever reaching a "goal" that might end up being a brick wall for you.

I say this just because a lot of people who focus on getting their black belt (or equivalent rank) end up getting there and going, "OK. Now what?" Some (a lot) lose their momentum and end up stagnating or completely quitting.

Just a word of caution based on what I've seen happen to dozens of people over the years that I've been involved in MA.

True I seen people get to the black level and it just wasnt for them. Guru is a goal i have thou, but my top goal is to master a martial art.

plus train with people who are top notch in there field, not by just seminar's but becoming a student under them.

One thing im working on right now is ''the flow'' feeling the enegry, I'm not bad at it now its i want to bring it up a level. Stay ahead of the game.

Have you tried working the material blindfolded? That can help with the feel of it. If it's particularly technical or dangerous, then work it very slowly.
