hm. I hurt my shoulder a long time back wrestling, which took me out of most aspects of my fight game for a long time. When I say my shoulder was injured I mean it was badly torn. I didn't have health insurance and was afraid I'd waited too long anyway. Often very light efforts would cause the tendons in my anterior deltoid to sing with a sick cold nauseating 'pain' feeling. I know something about rehabilitation from past incidents, however, and i saw that my stickfighting motions were circular and non-impacting. the motions were never very jerky. They also moved the shoulder throughout it's full range with the full range of techniques..So..I kept doing my stickwork, at slow prolonged speeds with relatively light rattan. As I progressed I allowed myself to work at faster speeds and for longer periods of time. Eventually (a couple of years ago) I was also able to start hitting the heavy bag or an opponent's sticks. I currently use heavy mattock handles for 5-10 minute training sessions. I work with them both slow and fast. This is quite a feat for me when I think how stiff, tight and weak my shoulder was just 5 years ago. I still can't do pushups without pain, but that's odd because I wrestle full speed all the time of late.
Just saying, though, if you get a shoulder injury try pogressively ( very slowly, over a long patient period of time) increasing your stickwork to harder levels of exertion. And lots of slow stretching of the injured muscle and it's surrounding neighbors.
