  • What is the Inosanto blend comprised of ?

I decided to start a new thread from the 'Who taught Guro Dan FMA thread'.

I find Inosanto blend to cumbersome, so I generally refer to it a JKD Kali, it seems to get the point across to JKD people and other FMA people, as FMA taught by Guro Dan Inosanto or with his lineage.

So what is the JKD Kali comprised of ?
( for the time being lets leave the Majapahit/Maphilindo stuff out of the equation)

Inosanto Blend is at the core of the system I train/teach. But I don't do JKD. I've never formally trained in JKD - except for seminars and the random class here or there.

Yes, many JKD guys have had some training in Inosanto Blend FMA - same as I've had some training in JKD. But, in my experience, when it comes to FMA, there's a significant difference between a JKD guy who does some Inosanto Blend FMA and an Inosanto Blend FMA guy.

So, a JKD Kali guy, IMO, would be a JKD guy who has some training in Inosanto Blend FMA. What will his FMA aspects consist of? Depends on the individual. As a JKD guy, he will have adopted what works for him and what blends into his personal preferences/attributes/etc.

What does Inosanto Blend consist of? Well, that's easier to pin down. Rather than me typing it out, here's a link to the website for an instructor under Guro Dan - Mike Krivka - who has the training areas laid out very cleanly: http://www.martialartskoncepts.com/h...ok/12kali.html

These 12 areas came from John Lacoste - Guro Dan's primary influence in FMA. Within these areas, though, Guro Dan incorporates drills and training elements from his other FMA instructors, too. But those 12 areas are a good outline for what can be found in the Inosanto Blend. Each instructor/school may also not focus on all 12 areas - or may specialize in certain areas. In the system I teach/train, for instance, we do some work with long weapons, thrown weapons and healing but little with projectile weapons.

    Mike

In "Filipino Martial Arts" Guro Dan also counts as his instructors or influences Angel Cabales, Ben Largusa, Max Sarmiento, Sam Tendencia, Leo Giron and others in addition to Johnny Lacoste (who by the way, if you get to see the Dog brothers tape "The Grandmasters Speak" you can see him move, amazing!).
