  • Knife as Survival tool

Let's face it- as students and instructors of FMA we are aware of how the knife is a tool for destruction. It is a means of survival in dire circumstances. However, the knife can also be used to save one's life as a tool to create shelter or assist in making fire for food and to sustain body heat.

Sayoc Kali does not use our connections with the military to promote our civilian knife courses. Our Sayoc Tactical Group is a private and separate course set aside for those matters concerning those who place themselves in danger for the sake of our freedoms. It is not open to the public.

Unfortunately in lieu of recent tragic events in the news, we've witnessed people succumb to the harsh conditions that nature can often bring about to the unprepared. So we have asked one of our Sayoc instructors to film an instructional dvd series for the general public. After all, we learn martial arts as a means of SURVIVAL and as a true martial art one must be able to teach all aspects of keeping our family and loved ones safe from harm.

U.S. Navy SEAL, Sayoc Kali associate instructor and survival expert "Tracker Dan" shows you how to stay alive when the unexpected happens and you are stranded from any means of modern shelter. Learn how to choose the proper location, avoid location specific dangers, and how to construct a universal woodland emergency shelter - The Leaf Den.

Shelter is arguably the most important life saving survival skill that can be learned. Knowledge of this skill will help you protect yourself and others from life threatening conditions such as the rain, cold, sun, heat, as well as biting and stinging insects.

Tracker Dan was raised in the northern wilderness where he began his life-long passion for learning self sufficient survival skills. A long time teacher at Tom Brown’s tracking school, he continues to appear as a guest instructor. While serving in the Teams, Tracker Dan was able to apply and test these skills in many different environments.

    Running Time: 45 Minutes.

I have heard about Tracker Dan from Harley Elmore and his group in North Texas. Survival skills such as these are very useful, but not many of us know them! Skills such as these would have helped the people in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast areas during Hurrican Katrina. It is a good idea to know the basics of making fire, making shelter and finding food in emergency situations.
