To his credit he appears to be operating at a good skill level, and there is certainly some complex technical knowledge on display here. Sure its a little staged, but having made demo videos myself I appreciate that a certain degree of choreography has to take place, otherwise people will get hurt.
I guess my only criticism is that they seem to be trying to pass this material off as functional, when of course this kind of complex weaponry is very much the art, as opposed to the martial. The tough faces pulled to the camera and the grimacing on the part of his poor demo partner, make it come across like they are trying to convince you of some kind of reality inherent in all those stick&dagger fights we get into in our lives.
Still, its a good demo video of the Doce Pares system.

Yeah Michael its the non functional bit i dont like,i guess i am hard to please though!.
As you say it is a choreographed demo after all, sometimes though in this type of demo the demonstrators can come across like Jazz Band practicioners, they have good skills with a stick to!.
I don't think you are too hard to please, you have just been in the game a long time and probably seen a thousand videos like that one. Thats the difficulty now with making a demo video or releasing a DVD - what are you going to do that hasn't already been done a thousand times before?

Yeah Michael i guess your right,i dislike being critical or negative,i just look for functionality and didnt see much there.
I don't think you ever come across as negative, you just speak your mind.
And you know, if people make demo videos and put themselves out there on the web, then they have to accept feedback and take the rough with the smooth. God knows I have taken my share of shit over my clips, but you don't stick your head above the trenches and not expect to get shot at.

We should soon find out Michael, as Frans will be in Cambridge on 18/19th April to conduct his first ever UK seminar. As for pulling faces, my students all do that when I apply joint locks on them too! Further to that, haven't I also seen Guro Dan do some stick & dagger work once?
