  • Anyone Know What happened to the AMOK! site

I have just returned to the boards recently and was curious if anyone knew if the AMOK! KnifeFighting Website was just down or if it was completely removed. I have had a hard time locating it and having it come up.

Anyone know which styles it blends.

    AMOK! info

    Hello Al,
The website was down for a few days because there was a domain name problem. It was resolved when Prof. Sotis came back from his tour in South Africa. As for AMOK! it was derived from Prof. Sotis experience in Kutao and Pekiti Tirsia, as well as his experience in other arts. Prof. Sotis continues to train with Grand Tuhon Gaje in Dagaso Tirsia and more advanced aspects of the blade.
    I hope this helps
    All the best
    Steve L.

      Thanks,

I got on the site the other day. I was wondering if there were Sayoc influences due to the different Series they had (i.e. generic 9)

        AMOK! and Sayoc Kali

        Hello Al,

Actually the Sayoc kali method, or at least some of it's aspects were adopted into AMOK!. Prof. Sotis had attend seminars with Tuhon Sayoc, and I can remember him saying this cross checking method is from Sayoc Kali, it eventually lead me to also train in Sayoc Kali . The generic 9, are basic angles of attack. there are 6 slashing attacks, and three thrusting attacks. From this basic method, you can also change the movements to thrusting attacks as well as continuing the slashing attacks. The generic nine are not target specific(this is different than Sayoc kali), but used as a tool to familiarize the student with the lines of attack and methods of counter (Pekiti Tirsia like). Also contained within AMOK! is a set of specific target strikes(and angles) which are based on the generic nine. That aspect is similar to Sayoc Kali.
I hope this helps you see some of the similarieties as well as the differences.
Train Hard, it is the way!
