Mr. Spear, with all due respect you must be aware that the people of other lands and cultures do not share every idealology with westerners.

While science and violent force of action may be enough for some it does not fill the needs of others. You have a screen name that reflects an ancient (magical) weapon revered by many cultures. Surely you can empathise with the boar? Is it without spirit? Some may say yes, others no. (to me,) If it bleeds, breaths or breeds its a living soul and therefor it is worthy of respect and consideration like all of the living things provided for us by a generous Creator.

We do not worship ancestor spirits or pray for the pig, I doubt we are all properly thankfull for the many things we enjoy. We do not all slaughter our own food or treat a Bovine as a holy dieity...

I just want to kindly ask you to consider the faith and spirituality of others with some kindness...

Shamen are important community figures in the villages they call home and I don't think it's right to disparage the folks just because we don't share the same fundamental faith.

PLUEEEZEEE give me a break, This is a martial art forum in the the USA and its 2006 .....you need not believe in magic (in fact its probably a detriment to your training) in order to grasp the systems....

Many idiots still hang on dim mak and the delayed death touch as magical mystical mumbo jumbo....even though internal bleeding was the reason for delayed death, not the "3 day death touch" (unless you count the 3 days it takes to die of internal bleeding) If you live in a culture that still has these beliefs, i doubt rather seriously they are reading ole boarspears posts to get insulted....if they do, i guess i have to risk the wrath of their voodoo curse over the net.

i think poking holes in the shroud of mysticism is good, it will allow you to examine the techniques in the light of day, free from any cultural beliefs that may have attatched themselves to self defense techniques due to local superstitions and religious beliefs.

Just for the record my favorite Tea (tazo) IS blessed by a Shaman, my Boarspear (nor the rest of my weapons) have ever been blessed by a shaman or danced around and had a chicken shook over them.

Very well. I respect your values as much as the next guy (maybe more) but I think there's a place here for the cultural exchange of principle and faith.

I find it interesting from the traditional approach as well as the historical. I wrote a post (to you) about the so called "poison hand" that you mentioned above. I must have not put it up but I'm curious because this is one of the darkest "secrets" I have ever known of...

If you're not talking about Dim Mak the idea of staging a death (or delayed death) is just another con game. Not a covert assassination method. Not "magic"...

Now, about your spear...?

Sanokat is a broad bladed variety. It is the primary weapon of Ceram and especially the people of Alefuru where it is the central topic of many legends and myths. Vows of brotherhood are sworn on them stuck in the ground. (a symbolic gesture no doubt) In legends these people hold dear (in oral traditions) a spear is said to miraculously cause water to flow out of the ground (not unlike a certain Bible story) Miracle, magic... maybe not but interesting all the same.

Also the people of Huaulu are said to be skilled spearmen with much respect for the weapon.

So, to Boarspear I will close with the famous battle cry of King Leimese:

Oto'o sala taha sala....Miss when you slash, miss when you thrust...

Try not to miss the wonderfull diversity in the world.

The spear is especially powerful magic! Just point it at someone like you mean to run them through and watch them turn pasty white and stand frozen on the very spot. They might even wet themselves! Now if THAT'S not "magic" I don't know what is!

The net may well be world wide, but this forum and the majority of its members are from the USA or other English speaking nations....regardless, those of us sitting in America have the ability to see past the local customs and beliefs of those closer to the traditional art but further from reality (scientific understanding) but much closer to folklore, and mythical cult worship of your local guru.

You go on and rely on poorly crafted local handmade weapons with cracks to hold the poison...and be sure to say an extra prayer to your gaurdian angel

Mindset, awareness, experience and skill coupled with courage defines a warrior, not which higher power he uses as a crutch to prop up his feelings of inferiority...
