  • Thinking about taking up karate

There is a local community center offering karate classes....

What are some good questions to ask the instructor?
Should I be looking for him to belong to any specific organizations?

My BJJ instructor is affiliated with Leo Xavier, a Black Belt and Champion grappler.... and my BJJ instructor has two black belts from the AMAA as well as a blue under Leo, so I know he is legit. How can I do the same with Karate?

I am not sure which style is offered, it is just listed as "American Karate." My other option is WTF TKD. I just want to do them once or twice a week for flexibility, balance, and to meet some pretty girlies lol. So I don't care so much about whether or not I will be able to kill people with a death touch..... so long as I have fun, flexibility and balance improvements, and meet some nice folks.

Dude, you should take up Yoga. It will probably satisfy all the criteria you have posted.

Where are you located? I work for Dragon Spirit Martial Arts in New Jersey. My instructor is also my personal friend and collegue. I know that when I attend the regular class (Four times a week, two nights required), I always have a lot of fun.

I live in Oklahoma like my profile says.

No. cooking class will not work because that won't improve balance or flexibility.
