There is a public perception that akido men/women can't kick or punch. They only do soft throws, a few hard throws and joint locks. The general public likes flashy techniques that look pretty. I for one know less about akido than any other art; however I repect all arts. The cops here live and die by akido.

There is an old saying in martial art; There is no bad art, all martial arts are good and every body thinks that their art is the best art.

Sweet! So, I'll be visited by your pack of pet ninjas? Who would like to be insulted first? I have a real address--you don't have to waste time looking up IP's. Just ask...
In all seriousness though, aikido, like any deep art requires deep thought. Let us be polite and say not everyone has the time or desire for deep thoughts....

The cops in NYC live and die by Aikido? I don't think so.

I guess the Beretta 92F they all have issued to them never comes into play. I agree that aikido is great for things along the lines of handcuffing and controlling a suspect, but it's a lot easier to pull off with a partner backing you up with his weapon drawn.

Hitting someone is not always an option. . .

Some one who has been under the control of an Aikido man would speak differently.

If you are under the control of an aikido master its what you get for sleeping on a park bench. The NYPD doesnt like that.

Then why hit them at all? Just stab or shoot them. . . .

Where's the fun in that? You spend 35 years practicing a martial art, stabbing or shooting them seems like a cop-out.

It's more efficient. I'm just following your line of reasoning. . . .
