So what is fact and fiction here ?. Why do these idiots still dress up in masks to train ?

Those were written by Ashida Kim, who actually trains in Chinese martial arts and has no formal background in ninjutsu of any kind. He decided to cash in on the ninja craze back in the '80s and wrote a few books out on the subject. While some of the stealth sections of the books he has put out are interesting, most of them are rubbish.

A lot of these people are what you call smart, and what they do is they contact an agent and pitch their idea to the agent. That's really the only way to get a book published these days. No good publisher will look at your book if it isn't recommended by an agent, because there are sooooo many wannabe writers out there, that no company would be able to read through all the manuscripts. Anyhow, so if the agent likes your idea and thinks it will make some decent $$$, they pitch it to the publisher, and you get a go-ahead to write it out and it gets published if the publisher likes it and WHA-LA!! And then they just count on the actual dumbos out there that will buy the stuff.

It happens all the time. And then the agent gets a percentage of the money made, the publisher gets a percentage, and you get a percentage.
