  • Studying in Japan

I will be studying for 9 weeks in Hikone, Japan this Summer and was wondering if anybody from the area knows of a good dojo I could study at. I don't care about the style just lookin for a good dojo with hard training. I appreciate any feedback I can get.

    Hi,

Try the local bookstore. They should have the local MA mags that usually have a directory in the back. Btw, which part of Japan is Hikone in?

    Cheers

i'm exceedingly happy for you to have this opportunity.and although control of ones emotions is a high point of my training i must admit uncontroled envy! LOL good luck, prepare to be hit hard and have a sensei with little patiants for soft and "uncomprehending" westeners.

What does Ashihara Karate focus on? I have considered taking a Kendo class or something of that nature just because of personal interest.

Ahhh... I think I've been there...but I thought it was called Hakone. If it is the same place, the hot springs are good, the manju is excellent but the eggs cooked in hot springs are foul (no matter what anyone there tries to tell you) - avoid them like the plague.

                Lucky bastard!

It is pronounced with an "a" sound but I think it's spelled Hikone. Then again maybe I'm wrong.

What if your airport pick up has some problem?
