  • How many different versions of bujinkan ninjitsu are there?

Also, how do they differ? Are some easier to learn than others? How long does it take to be able to use them for self-defense? Thanks in advance.

Well, the actual Bujinkan consists of nine schools, and depending on where you train they may concentrate more in some places than others. My dojo actually does an excellent job of balancing them, though I have noticed more Koto Ryu and Togakure Ryu than some of the others. Some people teach just one version, others teach a combination, and still others rework up a few of the schools and call it something entirely different but claim it's still related to the Bujinkan.

As for how long it takes to use for self-defense, it ultimately depends on how quickly you pick up the foundation. On average, it'll take you a while to really get it down, but it all depends on prior experience, your mindset, how well you listen, how often you train, etc.
