  • Masaaki Hatsumi, 34th Ninja Grandmaster..

I am a member of a forum dealing with Ninjutsu. We have a topic that is burning out of control !! - Recently, The domain name, MasaakiHatsumi.com went up for sale at ebay. It was ended by the seller who now has it listed at AfterNIC.com

Masaaki Hatsumi, Is as you know the 34th Grandmaster of Ninjutsu. He is the one that taught Stephen K. Hayes and brought the art to the United States. Had it not been for Masaaki Hatsumi - There wouldn't be any ninja movies.

My question is, Is selling the domain name good? - Bad or terrible? - How does the Grandmasters names up for sell reflect the martial arts? - Wonder who will buy the domain? - Wonder what would tarnish if a porn site purchased the name? - What about your grandmasters name? - This has become such a heated discussion at our forum, I became curious to see how others, in this case you... feel about it...

I say what I am about to say as a ninjitsu man myself,

I really don't see the issue. I can perfectly understand that no one wants to see their instructor's name made into a mockery. However, I highly doubt that anyone outside the MA's will have an interest in the domain. I'm curious if you have a bid history.

I refuse to be someone who could be labaled a "Hatsumi worshiper." I'm not going to run around screaming "fire" if Hatsumi himself is not worried. I'm sure, if it were important to him, that he's well aware of the auction. He has enough money that he could easily purchase it himself. He has no dojo of his own, he makes millions a year, he's a bone doctor, he's not strapped for cash.

He's shown that he doesn't really care what other people think of him; he knows what he has. If he did care, then why are there 10th dans who have no clue what's going on? Hatsumi has always made 2 distinctions in the bujinkan. Those who sink, and those who swim. If you want to earn it, he'll help you. If you want to buy it, he'll take your money.

No, I'll say that this does not bother me one bit. Sure, I wouldn't want to see a porn site get it's mits on it, but I doubt it'll happen.
