    hey all,

due to the fact that the new star wars movie is coming out on the 19th, i was wondering what style the Jedi use. I know it is a japanese style, but i'm not sure what.

lol this is pretty dumb... but just for fun I will comment....

dont you think it would be more of a chinese style... kung fu or something like that.. tai chi even.. the jedis power flows from the force.... kinda like the kung fu or tai chi guys power comes from his chi or w/e... harnessing your chi for the most effect, harnessing the force.....

I think the bounty hunters would be more japanese ala the whole ninja assassin thing.... and ujhh..... wookies are street fighters... hehe....

It was just a question. And anyway, as a kid didn't you wish you could have the ability to use a lightsaber?

But it has to be a Japanese style that it was based off for the movies. The hand position, forms, and length all suggest a more traditionally Japanese style of fighting.

On the very first starwars(a new hope) they had a kendo instructor working with the Mark Hammil, Sir Alec and David Prowse(Vader). There the big fight was Kenobi vs Vader, A very old man vs someone who is mostly a machine. They didn't feel the need to be flipping and dashing around during the fight scene so the went with the slashing of kendo and a little bit of the jabbing and thrusting of fencing. Empire and Jedi....and third grade class could have coriographed(sp) they were going to do the same thing for Episode 1 The Phantom Menace. They had a stuntman come in and show lucas what Darth Maul could do with a double bladed lightsaber. they wanted to old cardboard style of the other starwars. So Ray Park gave them what they asked for. During a break he began to twirl it around like someone who had trained in Wushu his whole life(cause ray park did! ), large circular movements, kicks, mobility etc. Lucas ate it up. After that fighting styles became and extension of character, Mace has his ownstyle, flowing and confident, Qui-Gon was powerful and precise, Obi-Wan was young an stupid etc...

And i don't wish i had the ability to weild a lightsaber, I just wish i had a lightsaber

Actually the new Star Wars movie is more Wushu based than any other styles like Dixon said.

yes, for the first few movies they used mostly Japanese styles, in the new ones they branched out, even going as far as to add in some European techs and a Euro Broadsword style.

Yoda and much of Jedi philosophy was inspired by Morihei Ueshiba, founder of Aikido. Lucas had some exposure to aikido philosophy around that time, either personally or through friends.

Subsequent writers contributing to the Star Wars mythology have drawn on lots of other inspirations as well. Steven Barnes, author of the "Cestus Deception", used Body-Flow and other Circular Strength Training concepts as his conceptual basis for Jedi training. If he'd written it a bit later, he would have based more of it on Scott Sonnon's "Softwork" training methodology too. Barnes was blown away by the things we learned at the first Softwork seminar last fall, and no doubt his future writing will be influenced by it.

Hey, technically that means I'm certified to train Jedi. Weird...

I'm sorry about the "K", typing with wraps on doesn't work well.

But... have you ever tried Colby Jack?

                        yes...colby jack is pretty good.

velveda/rotel dip is just about as good as it gets.

and i would say that on a roast beef samich...swiss cheese is the best.

what are your thoughts on the various types of cheese.

ps. i am not insane...i am the normal one and everyone else is just weird.

A rule of thumb on cheese... if it's French blow it up!

Anything else is fine, especially when you and ham/turkey/roast beef/bologna/etc.
