    Yep

There are strikes (atemi waza) in the curriculum. However most schools don't teach them.

Is Judo effective? A decent Judoka will trash the average joe if he gets his hands on him.

    I love JUDO!!!

I think i'll have to start Judo as i am looking to add throws into my arsenal, my stand up is very good especially kicks and my ground is ok, suppose i better go to a Judo school that teaches ground aswell.

Judo, in my experience, does sod all for defnding against punches or kicks. Standard person on street probably would lose to a competant judoka. Probably. Being picked up in the air then thrown onto concrete with your body weight and that of the judoka would hurt like hell.

On the other hand, most judo seems to be taught from a standard grip, holding onto their gi. Might be better to go for ju-jitsu, since this does have strikes and kicks, and tends to incorporate throws into it. Someone throws a punch, throw them while their punching etc. Hope thats slighty clear.

In my very biased opinion, ju-jitsu is more effective than judo at almost everything. in my experience anyway. Feel free to shout away at me if you disagree

Many Judo players never explore Judo KATA enough to find out what all the techniques are for. There is your blocking, parrying, jamming, punching, slashing, stabing, kicking, elbow strikes, knees and headbutts. You'll find finger tip strikes, chops and all the typical "vital" targets in Judo Kata... in addition to the throws, holds, locks, chokes, escapes and counters.

                Judo

Competition Judo and traditional schools, do not teach how to defend punches and kicks. Judo is extremely effective when combined with a stricking art. Once the attack is defended, the goal is to grap and then use the strengths of Judo.

                      Want Japanese (Judo) names?

Do I need to spell out the Japanese names for kicking and punching?

Do your homework, if you still think I'm wrong

Judo is all fun and games until someone gets PUNCHED IN THE FACE then it's just FUN!!!

Can you say Mae-ate? How about Ohidari-mae-naname-ate?

That would be straight punch and rear cross in Judo terminology so just because you don't UNDERSTAND something doesn't mean it's NOT THERE!!

Yes, that definitely looked good. I am very impressed.. if i'd seen that a few years ago i wouldnt have quit judo. Throws like that are ones i'd love to be able to do.. that may just be enough motivation for me to find a dojo again....

                        Many many thanks friend
