It seems as if martial arts can have a detrimental effect in age.

What do you guys think about this entire issue!?

    Thanks!
    no pain, no gain.

if anything u should be thankful for every bit of pain u go through, its better than feeling nothing.

I know a few guys that have done the MA most of their lives. Not limited to Judo but I think the harder styles are hard on your body. Age has a way of slowing down the healing process so you take longer to recover from serious injuries. The cripled or deformed MAists that have knees or hips replaced or hands that don't work are good things to avoid.

Self preservation takes many forms. I still think Judo is a gentle art. The Sensei @ our local Karatedo (Mc) dojo couldn't even shake my hand when I met him... turns out it's chronic. Can't even make a fist (with his right hand). He had problems but ignored the symptoms then broke his wrist. He's effectivly handicaped for the rest of his life. Might be better off having it amputated because of the severe pain all the time.

His case might be an exception because of some genetic predisposition or it might be that punching the boards for twenty odd years was more than his hands were DESIGNED to tolerate.

A few aches and pains is better than being a pussy at whatever age you are now.
