"Best way" is relative, the best way for me may not be the best way for you.

Do you play darts? The best way is the way that hits the target you're aiming at. http://www.secrets-of-shuriken.com.au/index1.htm

I know. I was just wondering what different techniques different people use when throwing a shuriken. Star or Kunai.

        I prefer the Kunai myself.

Both Negishi Ryu and Shirai Ryu hold the blade in the same way, with a few variations depending upon the type of blade, and other schools follow suit, with a few variations of their own. It is held in the hand by forming a guide with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fingers. The little finger gives extra support and the thumb holds the blade in place. The feeling of the hand when holding and throwing is said to be gentle, like holding a swallows egg so as not to break it. (see fig. 1).

          Shirai Ryu

In Shirai Ryu, the blade is held with the point outwards towards the target, or inwards to the palm, depending upon the distance to be thrown.

I had already read everything on that site quite some time ago.

Then you already know the "best way" to throw a shurikin, go practice!

Other than myself and a few others I don't know if folks that frequent this forum are into throwing things. Here's a little trick that I played with my brother years ago...
Catch and throw. You know how to throw, you can hit the target but can you catch one? Try it. stand a safe distance from your partner and have him throw a (training) knife toward you (not AT you) from a longer distance (ten paces or so) you will have time to track the weapon and it will be easier to catch it. Practice until you can catch it by the handle end consistantly then in one swift motion throw it back. Close the distance as you get more proficient and faster at catching and throwing. When you feel "good enough" your partner can throw it at you but if you miss it you will be cut. It's a rush with live steel! Of course, your EVASION skills will improve too.

That sounds pretty fun, I think I will try it. Thanks.
