No, I think I have a fair grasp of you're arguement.
Correct me if I miss the mark...

    1. You seem to think that any so called "foul tactic" is over-rated, and not as useful as they are claimed to be...

I agree that they won't magicly make you win a fight, but at the same time they can buy time to employ other techniques, give positioning advantages (a blow to the groin, for example, will bring the head down), or possibly the potential to put the opponent away.

    2. It is true that the person controlling the fight is going to have more opportunities to employ these things

...so obviously it is better to be in control of the fight. So yeah, man, being trained is obviously a good thing. I never meant to imply that these tactics should be thought of as a substitute for skill or training, but they do help to shift the odds a little bit in your favor, given they are done correctly and they work. (obviously nothing is 100% anyway, and a failed eye gouge will piss somebody off really, really bad....whereas a successful one might end the fight, or at least give you huge advantages to finish the fight)

    3. It's a last ditch resort, or something done out of spite to cause a pehrric victory.

I don't necessarrily believe it to be only a last ditch resort, as you can use it to set up other techniques...it should be used as any other tool in your arsenal in a worst case scenario...BUT if the other things in your tool kit fail time and time again, and you are opposed to the use of these tactics, in a real bad situation they can be something you can try and use to help employ your usual techniques...they should be used to supplement your techniques, not replace them.

And yeah, in a life or death situation, or a scary, unpredictable one, leaving terrible wounds and hurting an assailant to the best of their abilities would probably be running through anyone's mind...right?

    4. as for TL's post...yeah, I recognize the difference between "getting somebody in handcuffs and beating them", but being in a prone position in a streetfight where others are bound to show up and use your head as a kickball, or being held down and beaten by a sadistic rapist who wants to hurt you and then violate you both sound PRETTY fucking urgent to get out of.

As for your story, it is great that your tactic worked for you...but not every sexual assault plays out that way, and you never know if somebody's intention isn't to slit your throat or beat you to death during the act.
(last week a missing girl turned up dead in my state after being raped and then asphixiated...the police didn't give out the details of her being raped, but the police withholding the autopsy info on request of the D.A. is a pretty hefty hint...a few weeks before, another asshole was caught trying to abduct 14 a year old girl and her 12 year old sister...he had condoms, a hatchet, and a video camera in the car.)

If somebody offered me the opportunity to get their eye or ear, or nose...to give me enough time to get in a position to do them as much harm as humanly possible, or find an I.W., I'm just saying, I'd take the opportunity.

To this day, I have never reported a post. (I wonder how many of my posts have been reported...maybe I should ask EF...I'm curious now.)
