    Tell them that you'd really LIKE to tell them, but if you did, a flock of ninjas might appear and kill both of you, along with everyone within earshot. Do this with a straight, stern face...and then put your finger to your lips and do the "sush" motion.

      Don't even tell them you do MA's in the first place. When ever people do I think they want people to think they are a bad ass or something.

        I wouldn't say it takes 10-15 years to "begin" to understand an art. About one year of hard boxing, kickboxing, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu training and and couple of good punches to the face here and there and you'll begin understand it well, but it takes years to get really proficient at it usually, but I wouldn't say 10-15. I honestly think people devle too deep into the techniques and philosophies of a lot of these arts. There are guys who practice an art for 20 years, who would still get their butt handed to them by someone with a year or so's worth of BJJ and boxing training.

          That's a good point, but remember not everyone who does MA's is a fighter or wants to fight and how often do street fights or self defence situation involve two experienced MA practitioners squaring off aganist each other?? Very rarely.
          People do MA's for various reasons and some people love to get technical, philisophical and deeply into the techniques etc. It's all personal ,not everyones a fighter.

                what the **** are you all talking about!? seriously. I came here and asked this question expecting answers from people who actualy take martial arts and show respect despite their personal opinions. Im not saying like what do i tell someone ive beat up just what ive beat them up with, i mean like if i had to write my style for some reason what do i write, MMA, ninjutsu or what. It somehow got from Ninjutsu to Goodfellas which is really strange and if you don't know what im talking about just shut the **** up and dont say anything. And im not a quitter, I got my black belt in jujutsu and felt i wanted to try something else, and Ninjutsu was shit from the start.

                      I have taken a number of styles myself, and though I have learned good techniques in all of them, and they all play a part in my fighting philosophy, I tend to tell people that I am a practitioner of Shorin Ryu. This is the art that I feel the most comfortable with and what I tend to fall into instinctively. Hopes this helps.

                          If you want to sound cool and superior tell them ;

                          "If I have have to explain you wouldn't understand ..."

                          If you want to sound mature tell them ;

                          "Just trying to figure it all out my friend"

                          If you want to sound like yourself tell them ;

                          "I know little of martial arts but I do know a fake ninja who rips people off and I manifest my own insecurities by picking on unsuspecting, innocent by-standers in life"

                          Good luck.

                            Purpose of this post:

                            1. Demonstrate temper
                            2. Demonstrate arrogance and ignorance in same sentence "I got my black belt in jujutsu and felt i wanted to try something else,"
                            3. Complain about being insulted
                            4. Insult people "Ninjutsu was shit from the start."
                            5. Contradict self.

                            Dude, I appreciate the purpose for which you origonally posted. But, what you need to ask yourself is why are you posting this question? The downside to the cyber world is that tone cannot be conveyed. Unfortunately, your post came off as "look at me! I practice so many arts! Aren't I special."

                            Your best plan, if you are truly trying to be a martial artist, is not to try and impress people with all the arts you've studied. Rather, tell them you are in the arts and leave it at that. If someone specifically asks, just give 'em the basics. I'll give it to you straight -- This is a lonely hobby. No one cares. Not your spouse, your best friend, your kid, nor your parents. It's a rare find to find a friend with whom you can discuss the arts and these people will already know your styles as you wisely reveal what you know in a disciplined and humble manner.

                                That's more than a yes/no question in itself!

                                Maybe go back to lurking and learn some stuff before posturing on here?
