Well I was not asking for my words to be picked apart, and I was looking to explain my self either. I was looking for other types of martial arts that I might find interesting seeing as how I have an interest in BJJ and Hapkido maybe someone knows of other MA's that might suit me. That is the suggestion I was looking for. So thank you for suggesting the ones you did, but as far as trying to analyze why I want to do the ones I want to do and degrading a MA that you obviously dont study and tell my that I lack common sense and I also lack and that I need to see a shrink because I would rather make someone tap out then knock them out is not what I was looking for.
I am going to be starting private security training for High risk deployment, I.E. Iraq, in one year. I am more interested in submission then striking because if my job calls for it it seems everything ends better when someone taps then when someone gets knocked out. Then people get pissed and scars are left and people wana shoot or stab other people, not saying that it doesnt happen when u make someone submit to you. But I would just rather not hurt someone badly that wants to hurt me if I have the option. These two MA's give me that option and also allow my to strike If I have to.
I would rather enjoy what im training in because then I will be more into it and I will do a better job.
So I am sure all of what I am saying makes sense to someone on here, maybe not you but I guess you and I think differently. Im more of a color kinda guy, you seem like the its either black or its white kinda person.
Thanks again for the suggestions and take care, I'm done with this conversation with you for the day.

This punch is heavier than life.
Do we get first amendment rights on the internet? lol
lol Thats what guns are for. But when is the last time you watched Cops and saw a cop kick and punch a criminal rather then use submission techniques to subdue them?
I was just razzing you Mr. Sp when I was younger I had every and anything short of the costume that had to do with Old Master Patch.
I thought he was the coolest mofo on the planet.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some else who shares my view!
I found my new buddy lol.
Well today I go to the one guy in town who knows of all the good dojos for any martial arts and get his opinion on a school. But I think Im just going to start doing Jujitsu for a month or so till I begin another art just to see how much wear and tear it does on my body. Im in good shape but Im not in bruce lee shape.
A person who is said to be proficient in the arts is like a fool. Because of his foolishness in concerning himself with just one thing, he thinks of nothing else and thus becomes proficient. - Hagarkure
I think Hapkido is just freaking awesome. The problem is finding a pure Hapkido school that isn't just Tae Kwon Do with some grappling thrown in as an "add on" to get adults to come to the classes, not just 5 year olds.
I agree 100% that is that problem with some dojangs, they are simply imposter dressing TKD as hapkido.
Also, I agree with Jubaji reagrding boxing. Hapkido has very nice hand technique but it will always benefit you to have at least some boxing training.
SP - The problem with your "agression" is that you really assume that you will hurt someone vs you getting your ass handed to you. Understanding this point can lead you to manage you agresssion.
A punch can end a fight by KO or because the other person will not have the heart to continue after the feel the tap on the jaw. However if you punch like a sissy.......you are in for a long night. on the other side don't assume (again) that you can automatically subdue some with grappling and that grappling will eliminate the need for hand strike. As Jubaji stated getting a TD looks a lot easier that it is and messing around with a couple of friends isn't the same. rember, people have to earn teh right to use grappling it is generally 2nd or 3rd move before you can apply technique.

I know a bit about Jubaji, and what he is against is any form of martial art that does not have "live" training. I agree to a point, but that would rule out a majority of traditional martial arts that are excellent, like Kempo, japanese ju-jitsu, Ninjutsu, hapkido and Aikido. It also rules out any kicking art such as TKD or Karate, as these are for the most part focused on point sparring.
All the arts that Jubaji seems to like have something in common: You spar at full strenght, or close to it. You get actually fight training. Those would include western boxing and wrestling, some forms of Karate (the one he mentioned-which I can't spell) Muay Thai, BJJ, judo and some others.
I can see his point, but since you will get the "live" training from BJJ, why not try Hapkido or Aikido?
I agree with you about the agressiveness: With a striking art, you pretty much have to knock someone out to stop a fight. Anything else is like stirring a bee's nest, and only will piss your opponent off.
With all ju-jutsu related arts (the gentle art) BJJ, hapkido, judo, Aikido, etc..there are ways to subdue without absolutely destroying someone and going to jail. That's why I also perfer them, though I do practice kickboxing on my own.
If you want to get away from the possibility of learning diluted hapkido with point TKD sparring, look for either Combat Hapkido, Hwarangdo or Tukong Musool.
Hwarang and Tukong are not Hapkido, but they are definitely worth a look. I trained under a combat hapkido and tukong instructor in central TX. Great instruction!

Hi mate, just wanted to point out that no one taps out in real life fights.
Ending a fight with BJJ will often mean breaking something in a very nasty way. An arm bar for example doesnt stop with a tap out. if you dont make the arm bar a break the guy can be on you again as soon as you release him.
the same with chokes, you must go to knock out.
Just wanted to point out, you will do as much damage using BJJ as you will with muaythai or boxing.
If you are as aggressive as you say you are id suggest you dont do martial arts and deal with whatever issues there are that make you need to be so aggressive. Then when that is sorted move on to martial arts or youll just be as violent but much more capable of breaking peoples bones.
On another note you noticed that BJJ isnt so great 2v1, its good youve had the foresight to plan for this and pick a stand up art as well.
There was a saying that 90% of fight end up on the ground, well im not sure thats true but i can tell you that 100% of fights start standing up.
If you can finish a fight standing its better to do so.BJJ is awesome on the ground though.
My advice to you would be to go to a hapkido class BUT also go to a muay thai and a boxing class (and any other you are interested in)to at least make a decision having seen classes in action. Viewing a class is much like going to the car showroom, your opinion based on reviews and so on can change wildly when you are actually there.
Im not going to tell you which to do as thats entirely up to you. I just dont think your reasons for avoiding muay thai and boxing are relevant given the brutality of BJJ which is at least on par with the others.
yup, this guy sounds like he needs an anger management class more than a martial arts class. with his state of mind, that will save him more assbeatings than the martial arts classes.
watch out for these kind of guys, who admit to having a severe lack of self control, coming into your your gym and dojo and trying to break your neck when you supposed to be flow training.

tbh i think its also unlikely he would pass the aptitude test for private security work in Iraq.
Personally the last thing i would want working with me is a trigger happy guy that will get us all killed.
Professional soldier types are level headed and calm under pressure and can turn aggression on and off at when required and can always engage the brain over emotion.
Id suggest this guy avoid any form of military/police/security work entirely. In my opinion, at least until he deals with these issues.
Yeah... Hapkido is a cool art, at least the one I am doing is. Like previously stated, look for a good school not just some anoying TKD losers posing. Aikido is one of those really awesome effective arts, but only when done for a long amount of time, and properly. Kinda like Taichi in that sence. Personnally I dont like BJJ, it can work, but it irritates me. I like training for real world fights, hence the reason I get together with a bunch of friends and brawl, and ground-grappling is not very practical in real world fights, natually its somthing you should know, but notbase your fighting on it. What if there is shattered glass on the ground? Or the opponent has friends, a weapon, or half a brain? Yeah, ground-grappling is a necessary knowledge incase the person your fighting knows how to, but dont base your personal way around it. So yeah, with that said I suggest you do somthing that taches more standing grappling, striking, and/or practical weapons that yu can just find laying about.
