Osu or oss, is considered rude in Japan, other then some Karatestyles noboby uses it, kyokushin being the style that is really know for it, if the greet/bow or if they understand something or to acknowledge
Other styles do not use it in any circumstances because of it's rudeness
Ki-Ai as far as I know doesn't mean Fighting Energy but harmonious Energy, in that sense it is the same as Ai-ki

Not true, I'm afraid. Businessmen use it all the time, as I described above.Originally posted by Toudiyama[NL] View PostOsu or oss, is considered rude in Japan, other then some Karatestyles noboby uses it, kyokushin being the style that is really know for it, if the greet/bow or if they understand something or to acknowledge
The term "kiai" implies focus of energy, as in balance. (Think of reiki and other woo-woo nonsense. They're always on about aligning your energy.) The idea is that your energy should be perfectly focused and balanced at the instant of the strike, with which the kiai is timed to coincide.Originally posted by Toudiyama[NL] View PostKi-Ai as far as I know doesn't mean Fighting Energy but harmonious Energy, in that sense it is the same as Ai-ki
