    ninjutsu weapon qwestions By jubei42 - Thu, 01 Feb 2007 10:03:00 GMT

    =========

    hello everyone. My name is Jack, I am not new to ninjutsu but l will admit that I don't know everything. I am decent with most ninjutsu weapon and continue to train. I have recently received a set of ninja throwing spikes, And l have no idea exatly how to use them. l know if l just throw them around enogh l will someday get it right. But to save my spike from damage, l would like if someone out there could give me some pointers. I would be very greatfull to who ever could help.

    I've been training in ninjutsu (Bujinkan) for about 14 years now. The throwing spike (aka, bo shuriken) are best thrown by placing the spike between your middle and fourth finger, so the spike and fingers are all parallel, almost like the spike is an extra finger.

    Point the spike at your target, raise your hand so it is next to your ear, elbow bent. To throw, straighten your arm and flick your wrist at the last moment (the spike should be pointing at your target when you flick your wrist).

    There are many ways of throwing the bo shuriken, but this is the standard way of holding it. It doesn't work very well if you hold it like a flat (senban) shuriken or like a throwing knife.

    Try this out and see if it helps!

      There are a few ways to hold them, one of them mentioned above.

      A good site for any kind of Shuriken advice is:

      Also, if you don't want to damage your spikes before you know how to throw them, just get some nails and file them down.

      And, just to say, most companies that make those type of things tend to make them... kind of badly. They're typically made of stainless steal, which bends very easily.
      Hanwei makes a set of good bo shuriken, and Ed Green makes quite a few: www.budoweapons.com

      I hope that helps at least a little.
