    Koga-Ryu By Omar B - Wed, 21 Nov 2007 15:12:45 GMT

    =========

    Hey guys. So I've got a question. Since I'm a karate guy and know next to nothing about ninja I wanted to find something out. There's a dojo up the street from my house that says it's Koga-Ryu, but the sign also has karate, juitsu, kickboxing and a whole bunch of other stuff. I've never seen inside the dojo because it's a door on the ground floor and the windows upstairs are always closed.

    So is Koga-Ryu a legit form of ninjitsu? He seems to be listing off a few MAs on his sign. If the door were ever open I would go up there and sign up. Would be nice traveling 4 blocks to work out.

    Hmmmnn ................... the dojo sounds a bit strange to me. often places offering to teach you a mix match of martial arts are to be approched with caution, u can never be too sure so the best way to find out is to ask them lots of questions. Koga ryu was a ninjutsu school, it is one of the most well known schools that was based in that region of Japan and it came from a town called Koka, there were many more, 73 if i remember rite, another one you may of heard of is Iga ryu. It is unlikely they will be teaching that tho, he may of just found the name sumwhere and copied it down. If your interested in ninjutsu tho check out a dojo near you, look up the Bujinkan dojo and you should find it easy enough. Happy training

      I am by no means an expert at Ninjutsu. There are alot of fake guys out there for instance Ashida Kim who claims he studied Koga style. On further research I discovered that Koga ryu may never have existed and was promoted by Ashida Kim and Frank Dux.

      I am sure someone else can tellme if i right or not

        Very true. Koga ryu was an actual ninjutsu school tho, it however isnt found publicly today, lots of ninjutsu schools did die out over the centuries tho through either through the soke not passing on their title or simply there was no need for it any more, after the civil wars ended the need for specialised schools of warfare decreased, it is very hard to know what truely happened tho as it is ninjutsu and there are very few records on anything to do with these schools. I am no expert either m8 im just telling what i know from my teachers and books. Hoped this helped tho.

          Well, I don't know about claiming to be an expert, but, I did write this:http://www2.xlibris.com/bookstore/bo...p?bookid=38459. Yes, there was a real Koga-ryu, well documented in history. That being said, none of the modern manifestations rise to the level of credibility.

          Fujita is the last person who is given credibility relating to a Koga claim, and even he is questioned by some.

          Regards.
