    What do you really learn in Ninjutsu? By Maddogkull - 01-28-2010 11:05 PM

    =========

    What do you really learn in Ninjutsu?? It is an art of stealth? Do you learn how to conceal yourself? Like what are the fundamentals involved in Ninjutsu training? What requirements do you need to become a black belt/master in the art?

    Yes, you do learn to conceal yourself. But this is a Japanese art and the Japanese love to take things to the extreme, just think about folding paper(orgami). The art is over 900 years old with influences from China. It really depends on the instructor and if you go to Japan. Sure, you want to have the basics down before you go to Japan, but if you have already trained in martial-arts then you have the main basics down. Its your ability that gets you promoted in the Bujinkan, that and your attitude.
    Of course with each instructor you have requirements for belt rank to help you with the basics. Every year the Grandmaster presents a theme to focus the training, it may be a weapon and a concept or a family. I've been apart of the Bujinkan for 20 years and the training is rarely boring. Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. I've heard many times that the training doesnt stop once you leave the dojo; enjoy running? its part of your training. enjoy cooking? its part of your training. How ? I think its very Zen-like. Running, well, being able to run for your life. Cooking? Could you tell if you were poisoned? Or being in the present moment to realize the connection of you to your food, being here. now. Realizing for every day you live something dies.
    Its that very thought that is in every practice in the dojo. Knowing that this fight/moment could be your last. being able to see what is needed in every moment of the fight to insure your survivial. but I'm by far not the last person to learn from.
    Here's a couple more to learn from
