I think the Amber Alert system is great! I'm also looking for some good safety tips for both kids and adults.
I became involved with search and rescue and child safety back in 1994 while living in the Syracuse area, when a local teenager was abducted. I formed a group called Fighting Back which helped promote child safety and helped pass Megans Law. I've taught child safety to pre school and kindergarten classes for several years. I also wrote a safety song which I played for the kids giving basic safety rules ie. don't go into anyone's house or car without first getting permission, don't talk to people you don't know in a passing car or at the park, always use the buddy system, run and scream if someone frightens you etc.
After a recent missing child case in NH, I started working on a more comprehensive safety booklet to hand out at local schools, (where I've been subbing) and I have a ton of safety tips for kids but I'd like to add basic safety/self defense tips for adults as well-especially for women.
If anyone would like to contribute or make any suggestions, I'd appreciate the help. . . If you'd like to see what I have so far I can e mail you a copy.
