"Exactlly around where I grew up at, a one on one fight is like striking gold, you go to the ground here and put someone in a submission, I garuantee you are getting a Timberland boot to the head and body. "

your right, but ur less likely to get that boot if its 1 on 1.

speaking from my experience, however, multiple attackers can be taken out one by one. i see the value of 'taking it to the ground', especially if your already there, and theyre booting you. ive been in that situation, and taken one out at a time. you cop some serious damage, but as i said, if your already there, and theyre trying to keep you there... remember ppl, 'options'!!!

nah, not bs, just my take on the topic.

as i said, it worked once for me. it was 5 on 1, and they were all dead-set on keeping me on the ground. so, when they went for the 'boot', single leg takedown, and land some hits and do some damage. i got hurt, but everytime i made it to my feet, i was taken down again by sheer numbers.

also, when i had one down, the others had trouble trying to land blows, without tagging one of 'theirs'.

look, i wouldnt recommend willingly taking it to the ground in the street. try to stay on ur feet, but the chances that it may end up on the ground is high. you dont really want to end up there because its harder to run away. but if you do, you have to fight for your life. easier to die lying down than standing up.

saying that, dont just rule it out. remember the whole thing about bjj is (aparently) it stems from street fights in brazil. dont count it out as an 'option', thats all im saying.

          oh, and one other thing..

imho, you dont go to the ground and pull off a submission, unless you can break that limb. id rather takedown and strike as many blows as possible.

remember, street fights are very fast, and you dont have time to wait 20 or so seconds for that choke to really take effect. besides, your fighting for your life, (if your not, you shouldnt be fighting!), you want to disable the attacker as quickly as possible. not give him time to tap!!

So, you beat five people, going to ground, getting up, going to ground etc. Horse shit. Don't make things up.

As for BJJ being honed in street fights? It was in street CHALLENGE fights. One on one. Not spontaneous eruptions of violence where a group take on the lone man.

            You are full of sheeeeeeeeeiiiiiiittttttt!

Well Bravo for you, but still i would not, in a street fight, go to the ground unless I was put in that situation, whoever the group that was jumping must can't fight because in my experience multiple attackers is all at once not one at a time

gees, whats with the nastiness here? i was just pointing out that it CAN be useful, and that ground skills can be used in a real fight. im not saying its the best way, ur right. its best to be standing, you have more manouverability, better vision. all i was saying was that, in this particular scenario, it helped.

jees, you can cut the EGO in here with a knife! settle down. i wasnt saying you were wrong, i was just pointing out that in the street, the fight often goes to the ground, especially when there are MULTIPLE ATTACKERS, because they will DRIVE YOU INTO THE GROUND.
