Dan Inosanto

I was wondering what everyone thought of dan inosanto. any trained under him, met him, or whatever.

i had the pleasure of meeting him in november of 2001 and thought he was one of the nicest most graceous individuals that i have ever met. he was doing a seminar in ohio and was a real pleasure to meet him.

Tim Mousel- The guy who runs this site, and a school in Houston trained under him.

I'm sure there is a lot of info around here on him.

I've trained at a lot of his seminars and attended a couple of classes at his school. Unfortunately, I live halfway across the country from him or I'd visit his school more often.

My primary instructor trained a lot with Guro Dan and has known him for many years.

Based on everything I've seen and heard about the man, I'd say that Guro Dan is a very nice and personable man. A very good martial artist. And a walking encyclopedia of martial knowledge in general.

I have a good amount of experience with Dan Inosanto, and I can honestly say that he is the most knowledgeable martial artist I have ever met. My only complaint is that I sometimes am not ready to fully comprehend the answers he gives my questions when I ask him.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to add my two cents worth. I've trained at Guro Dan's seminars since I was in middle school. I've also had the opprotunity to work with an instructor under him. Even if you want to troll and say that he has "watered down" JKD and all that b.s., the fact still remains that he has put fourth monumental efforts to perpetuate the Filipino, Thai, French, Indonesian, Japanese, Chinese arts. The man has forgotten more knowledge of the martial arts than few will ever learn.

I think that the fact that he has tried his best to stear clear of the politics generally debated by his own students and just continue to teach and share his knowledge shows alot about his character.

If you have ever considered training, or better put, witnessing the man's skills, just go to a seminar. Well worth the cash.

ROFL Have you ever spent much time around Guro Dan - even at seminars? What he may have forgotten has more to do with standard memory issues than with number of systems.

He can switch from one system to the next without effort and keeps them all cleanly separated - or he can merge them seamlessly together at will.

Hey Secuerdas,

I think that I may have not been clear with what I was trying to put into words. Guro Dan has been in the arts since the 1950's, that's over 50 years in the martial arts. At any point after training with Bruce Lee, he could have easily sat and rested on his laurels. Rather, he continued to grow and promote that attitude of the "lifelong student" to his students. That is a rare and respectable quality.

Dan Inosanto was also taught to reject, or in this case, forget what he considers useless------or impratical.

I've known Dan since 1964. I consider him to be my main teacher and my friend. As far as I'm concerned, he's one hell of a person. How can anyone judge him who doesn't really know him?

"He's forgot more than most people will ever know" is ridiculous. It is a stupid figure of speach. I don't think he has forgotten much if anything he has learned in the martial arts. At one seminar, while contrasting different systems and training methods, he busted out a staff form he learned from Ark Wong. This was something he had learned from back in the day that he had no trouble recalling and performing.

Its not meant to be taken literally, you dim wit. It just means that Dan Isoanto is one of the most knowledgeable people around. Which he is.
