  • Help With Body Mechanics

    Hi guy, I'm new here.

My question is what are the proper body mechanics of the rear cross? I have been more focused on it lately, but I find it usually sort of slow and akward feeling. I know this is a very effective technique and would like to get the best use out of it that I can.

Pretty much all I know to do is stand in my regular fighting stance and punch. I also know to snap the hips for extra torque and extend the arm while pivoting on the balls of my foot.

Any suggestions? Help me find the cause of my ignorance

The rear cross gets power from three sources: dropping your body weight, turning your shoulders and hips and from pushing off your rear foot. Since I can't see your punch and thus can't help eliminate mistakes, I'll offer some good habits.

    1. start the cross from your rear foot by pushing and twisting from the ball.
    2. hips and shoulders should move together.
    3. throw the punch out loosely from the shoulder, don't push (i.e. don't concentrate on pressing out your arm as if you were bench pressing)
    4. drop your weight into your target and settle into your front foot.
    5. from the elbow out, the cross begins as if your were hammering a nail and straightens out into the target.

The feeling I try to get is that of moving my body weight from one foot to the other and adding that momentum to turning my body and propelling my fist.
