  • Hi all from Toronto (JKD & Wing Chun)

    hi,

Just wanted to say hi to all the martial artists and fellow members on the site...
I would like to learn JKD & Wing Chun in the Toronto area, unfortunately after looking around I have not found a school that teaches these techniques
    in the Greater Toronto Area.

Can any of you guys refer me to a school that teaches JKD and Wing Chun?

    thanks in advance
    Joseph

If I lived in Toronto, I'd look up the gang at Senshido.

Senshido is, at its heart, a Reality-Based Self-Defense system. What this means is that it teaches survival skills for real-world violent situations.

Tell them Spanky sent you and you'll be in for sure.

    In what I cannot say...

    Welcome to the forums!

They should have one in Toronto. They have one in Timmins for crying out loud!

But, he's a slackass... and you can quote me on that.

          lol spanky.

if you want a jkd school, or wing chun school. Go to www.factoronto.com you can at least learn of other wing chun and jkd guys in toronto from these people, if you dont like them.

http://www.jkdfamily.com/home.html That will give you a list of all the jkd guys in toronto.

Find out for yourself what sucks and doesn't.

I sort of feel hesitant after this response Kingston. Do you mean that these schools suck balls OR the art itself is not worth it?

I would like to learn something that's quick, effective and has a culture too...
I've read mixed reviews about JKD and Wing Chun but so far these 2 are the most appealing to me.
I was also thinking about Aikido and Tae Kwon Do or perhaps Ninjitsu...

            thoughts on those?

Your best bet if you're looking for something quick and effective is Senshido as Spanky suggested. I also read on their forum that they also have a Toronto study group there. Try and get in touch with one of them and see what they can do for you.

I sent an email to the instructor to see what he can do for me... he told me that JKD or Wing Chun lean towards traditional styles which isn't the area they teach in. So I'm still thinking about it.
I dont what to learn something quick and dirty but rather a art form that is quick, explosive and effective.

                Does anyone here study Senshido?

Bri Thai has done reviews on a lot of their products. Those can be found scattered throughout this forum, or you can head over to The English Pub to catch all of his reviews in one place.

Check out Big Sean Madigan's comprehensive instructor list, he might be able to find you a JKD instructor.

You're going to be hard pressed to find something more realistic and effective than Senshido that's available in your area.

If you want art, you can always take up Yoga or Tai Chi or Iaido to complement your training. Besides, there are a lot of hotties that do Yoga and Tai Chi.

                    Training in Toronto

                    Hi!

I am one of the members of the Senshido Toronto Training Group. We train in the concepts and drills of Senshido. All the members of our group have experience in different MA's and draw concepts and techniques from other arts as well. If you interested and have any questions you can email me at truetothe_arts@yahoo.com

If you are interested in Senshido instruction then there is a affiliate here in Toronto. She can be contacted at Valerie Potvin (Toronto) Contact info: paco489@hotmail.com.

The 2 schools that Kingston recommended teach actually what you are looking for in terms of jkd and wing chun. They come recommended.

                    I hope this helps,
                    J
