  • What do you think of this JKD school?

Well, I had originally want to do just Muay Thai but we do not have any schools specifically for that in Austin. I did, however, learn of a JKD school that is supposed to have an excellent Muay Thai program so I checked it out yesterday:

The instructor's name is Ray Parra and he is a student of Dan Inosanto as well as a student of Chai Sirisute, and is certified by both. Great lineage there! He is also a very nice guy and I really enjoyed chatting with him.

The school focuses on JKD, Kali/Silat and Thai Boxing as their main curriculum. They have mixed classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, then specific classes the rest of the week. I would be doing the mixed classes on Mon. and Wed., then I would be in the Muay Thai class on Fridays. Here is the schedule:

    Monday

    5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
    Kickboxing/Ground Fighting

    6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Mixed Classes: Kali/Silat, Jeet Kune Do & Thai Boxing
    (Beginning AND Advanced Classes)

    7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
    Jeet Kune Do

    Wednesday

    5:30 - 6:25 p.m.
JKD Ground Submission & Takedown Class

    6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Mixed Classes: Kali/Silat, Jeet Kune Do & Thai Boxing
    (Beginning AND Advanced Classes)

    7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
    Filipino Martial Arts: Kali/Silat

    Friday

    6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Mixed Classes: Kali/Silat, Jeet Kune Do & Thai Boxing
    (Beginning AND Advanced Classes)
