  • training before Wing Cun?

I've just been excepted into the 'International Wing Chun Academy' in Sydney Australia, i hope to attend in around 10 months. Does anyone know of any specific training exercises that i could do in the mean time that would be helpful for Wing Chun? Cheers.

Push ups.................lots of pushups and a daily stretching regiment{for your legs}. Are you training under Grandmaster William Chueng? He is based in Aussie.

i think the main guy over there who i shall be taught by is Grandmaster Jim Fung. It will hopefully be an amzing experience, learning Wing Chun for an entire year non-stop, i really can't wait. I have prior martial arts experience which i hope will be useful, thats in Ju-jitsu and Taekwondo, hopefully that might give a better basis; but who knows.

Good Luck, I wish I was going. I cross trained in wing chun for 9 months. I was, a brown belt in JJJ and I had injuried my shoulder. I was considering quitting JJJ due to the shoulder injury. Wing Chun Is nothing like TKD or jujitsu. It has 3 forms, I learned 1 which I still do. Wing chun has the buttefly swords, dragon pole and chi sao. Chi sao is the sticky hands drill and is a lot of fun to do. The kicks in wing chun are defensive and they rely heavily on vertical punches and palm strikes.

You are going to really love it. Best of luck.

If you want to get a head start you should study the books and tapes. Are you studying traditional wing chun or modified wing chun? Grandmaster William Cheung teaches traditional wing chun.

          sticky hands

          congrats on being accepted.
hardball is rite, there truly is no experiance like the double sticky hands drill. you have to remember to not get frustrated when an opponent easily slips through your defenses and taps you(i did ). also wen doing double sticky hands you have to feel what your partner is doing. FEEL. because by the time you would have thought about what he was about to do he wud have alreddy done it. with single sticky hands always keep your guard hand up near your face. my seem like common sense but sometimes it just slips :/
good luck and remember to feel your opponents moves

Have you got a rattan ring? There are a lot of solo drills you can do with it - great training for the forearms.

              re

Personally I prefer Jun Fan to Classical Wing Chun (cwc). That said, Wing Chun is a great art. It develops some great attributes even if one never uses
              CWC moves in a fight.
I recommend just doing the forms as much as you can in addition to class time. Do the forms 9-12 times per day outside of class.
I would alos check out the unique tapes by Sifu Randy Williams or the Panther tapes by Sifu Augustine Fong. Another good source, but hard-to-find, are tapes by Sifu Steve Lee Swift of New York.
