Knuckle toughening...whats everyone's advice. I have one of those boards with the stuffed canvas material (jesus, how many times do i forget the name of it), but i have no where to hang it without making to much noise when i punch it ( i have neighbors). I heard something about stuffing a bag with beans; something like that wont be as loud i guess. Anyone?

options you have
tie or tape a telephone book to a tree
or build a multiporpose striking pole
how: set a metal pipe or a wooden beam in cement inside of a rubber or metal garbage can, then wrap rope and canvas or what ever else your using around the wood post, metal pole option: wrap old rags and duct tape around the metal poll try to simulate a head, wrap the lower part of the pole with old rags and duct tape so you can condition your shins as well, use the middle of the pole wraped in rags and duct tape as a stabbing dummy. You can condition your knuckles, shins and practice your stabbing. What about hanging a tire or sand bag from a tree, also some times I mount an old punch( a focus paddle may mount better) mitt on the trunk of a tree and strike it ( be careful not too hard) look a the awma catalouge they have a lot of kung fu type knuckle conditioning devices, Bruce Lee's Basic training book also has some ideas on knuckle conditioning.

a canvas wall bag
that's the solution for you, you can get them through the awma catalouge and you can fill them with sand, gravel, dried beans or anything else then just nail it to a tree or wall ouside(wood or cement{you can use duct tape to mount it on a cement wall} the makiwara fastened to a tree is a good idea and probably the cheapest way to go.
