    Not at all.
If you knock an opponent back and send them reeling, catching up to them with the extra force with that hop step can really add some umph to their ass...and it's also a little scary for them, because they see you chasing them down. I like the extra step, and it guarantees you hit that perfect 45 degree angle with your supporting leg to rip their shit up.

This tactic can really mask your intentions if you do it correctly. The only way I could see it as being telegraphed is if someone simply does it without any kind of set up (i.e. strikes, teep, etc.)

Yeah I have to agree I used to not like mauy Thai I thought it was to primative and just not very technical until i met up with a MT instructer WoW i was proven wrong but I have not thrown out Juan Fan Kickboxing I think its great and works well for charging opponents and for burtsing forward but i like MT for the abaility to really just take out the lead leg with kicks and the body damage oh and let not forget them elbows and Knees

A friend of mine once went to a Paul Vunak seminar. Sifu Vunak was asked by a participant, if Muay Thai was "better" than Jkd or Junfan. Vunak's response:
saying muay thai is better than jkd is like saying a jab is better than boxing.
The concept is: use only what works for you. Jkd can use any form, but is bound by none. I think some attention does need to be paid to the issue of differentiating "street muay thai" from "ring muay thai."
K-1 and similar events have been on ESPN for years now, and many folks out there are conscious of the leg kick and its potential devestation. I don't think we can assume that muay thai, in its normal form, can automatically drop any streetfighter. Some streetfighters may now anticipate the leg kick, just as many can avoid the eye jab or the taiji groin kick.
What may be called for is to use some jfjkd concepts to "economize" MT
          for the street.
