The Karate International column started in 1988 as a JKD concept promo peice since I had just published the first book on Dan Inosanto and the JKD concept.
I received a lot of mail from readers and JKD advocates back then that felt that Bruce Lee's JKD had not been adaquately covered. So I started devoting more space to the other Bruce Lee students. The movie "Bruce Lee/ The Dragon" came out in 1993 and many readers were interested in what I had earlier termed the "Original art". Hence the never-ending controversy of original versus concepts JKD. I saw myself as a writer getting the story. I quickly found that if I wrote about OJKD then the concepts guys got mad at me and if I wrote about JKDC then the "original" guys got mad at me. Perhaps not so much today but in the mid-late 1990's the JKD controversy was very political and at times down right unplesant. I am not a teacher of JKD. JKD is a subject that I may or may not cover in a seminar. I still write about JKD. www.aikia.net

Edited because if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
