I just recently started studying martial arts. I first started studying MT and have been doing so for a while. I then simultaenously started studying JKD. At first it was a little hard since the stances are different. But I feel it's helping me become more well rounded. But part of me says to just stick with one or I'll get confused. Anyone else cross train these two arts? Are they compatable to train together? Sorry if this sounds like a newb question, but like I said, I'm a total novice.

Cross training JKD and MT?

At my school we can cross train MT and JKD if we want, which is what i do. Yes the stances are different but what i find, and i'm not the only one, is that my jkd stance adjusts slightly towards the MT stance and vice versa. I think this is fine because it means that the two stances are similar so when i train MT i am actually improving my overall (JKD) kickboxing game. I do the same with savate. I cross train these arts so i can get as much training in kickboxing and sparring as possible. Seems to work for me.

IF you study jkd, when you get in fight with someone whatever comes out comes out whatever you have trained the most will come out in a fight. You're body doesn't differentiate between styles. I study kali, junfan, silat, and muay thai. Whatever works for the situationt that i'm in i use. When i get in a fight with someone i don't go "Gee well lets see which style should i use to take the guy out, jun fan or muay thai hmmm.." it doesn't work like that. Whatever proven techniques i have i will use against my opponent. I've found myself that after doing jun fan for several years and then training in muay thai, i find that both styles have effectiveness in different situations.
"The style doesn't make the man, the man makes the style." I don't know who originally said that but its a good quote.
