  • Training with Marc Mcfann

I am just getting into JKD type training? Marc Mcfann has a school in my area. Has anyone trained with him? How good is he, both as a martial artist and, even more importantly as an instructor? His school has Jun fan/JKD, Kali/silat, JKD grappling, and Muay thai. I would appreciate any constructive comments.

    Thanks.

I believe He worked with the late Terry Gibson. And Inosanto. Teaches jujitsu also. Been around for several years Now. So you should do well enrolling in his class. I take you live in Arkansas. Fateville area.

Mark is a great instructor in all phases of combat. He is good in JKD as well as grappling. I highly recommend him. He's also a nice guy.

Thanks everyone for your help. Mike, does Brad Garrison also teach submission groundwork? Who would be better for that? And now that we are on the subject - how does JKD grappling differ from say BJJ? or Judo? Is JKD grappling as useful as BJJ proved to be in the early UFC's?

I also recommend Marc. Great guy and very knowledgeable. If you're not sure which instructor to train with, go take a class with each and see who is a better fit.

McFann is also heavily involved with the likes of Erik Paulson and Greig Nelson. So your q about sub wrestling should be answered.
The difference between Bjj and JKD grappling is that one is more sport orientated than the other. His silat groundfighting is unique.
If you want non bs functionality then Marc McFann is your man.

I've train with Marc while I was living in Arkansas, You can train with him in private lessons. That's what I did and he's great. If you have a chance to learn from him then do it.................
