JKD for self-defence?
No experience is the best place to start. You won't have to unlearn any bad habits. Strength and size don't matter. Its all about technique and their application. Find a JKD school or if there isn't one nearby don't be reluctant to get into any other martial that you feel comfortable with. Most of all the martial artists who post on here will tell you they started in something else before they gravitated to JKD.
If you have any more questions, feel free to post them because there are tons of people who will help you with answers.

A lot of JKD schools also teach some form of FMA's. This would be one thing I would look for as knife defense, SIW's, Improvised Weapons are all important aspects of Self Defense. Anyone would be foolish to think that they will have their butt covered only learning EH vs. EH in their self defense system.
