I do not train in the Bujinkan, but I have many friends that are black belts, and they are more than happy to share/trade technique, spar in the park, etc. They will give pointers willingly. I've even had Shidoshi Ken Cooper send me photographs of knife techniques he teaches.

I chalk it up to my status as an outsider - it was the first time I had met most of the instructors present. The instructor that I trained with on a regular basis wasn't around at that point.

I think one of the universal rituals after one of Guro Dan's two-day seminars is exchanging notes with your class-mates, trying (sometimes in vain) to come up with a more-or-less complete set. There's too much info sometimes!
