  • More about JKD

Hello Martial Artist, I was wondering about what JKD is really all about.I'm looking into other MA besides the one I'm in now.Is this more of a defense MA, fighting, attacking, or hand technigues/foot technigues or what? I'm more of a fighting person (loves to fight) so would this be another good MA to practice? Those who have been into JKD for a while, How do you like it?Is it hard, easy, or challenging to you in what way?I read that it is the only non-classical Gung Fu system in existence today. So is this mostly grappling combat art that Bruce Lee mad up from his Ideas?I know this is a mixed MA. So thanks in advance for answering my questions!

Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b/...s=Jeet+Kune+Do If you really want to know I would suggest you take an intimate look for yourself and see if Jeet Kune Do is what you want to train in. I'm sure most who train in JKD now have done the same thing. The only person who can answer what way you should train is yourself, and that requires you to do the studying to see if JKD is right for you.

If you have a chance pick up the December issue of Black Belt Magazine. There is an article written by Jerry Poteet(an original student of Bruce) called "To Feel is to Believe" Which he writes about how Bruce's training methods leads people to be able to intercept the fist of others/sense what the opponents attack will be before they fully execute it.

As to your question if I like it. I do personaly beleive that Jeet Kune Do is a great MA to learn if you want to be a great martial artist uninhibited by sport rules. However, I think that JKD is not to be taken as just a hobby but is for the serious practitioner. I mean, I don't think it's meant to be dived into half-heartedly. IMHO.

        Good luck on your homework.

Hehehe Thanks but you know I'm going to end up with more questions but I'll lay off (For now).I like the fact that it only depends on you alone in order to gain knowledge and success in MAs. I shall see if I can find that issue and read it and maybe I'll gain helpful info about JKD.This seems like a good step to take for me but then again I could just be talking,So....Anymore comments?
