  • Two on one Stickfighting

Has anyone ever done this? We've done two on one knife but never with a stick. Actually, one of the best warm up's you can get before practice or fighting is to do a "live" sumbrada three or four on one for a few minutes. Really makes your heart beat.

Anyway, I'd like to try this although I'm very un-easy about stepping out there with someone very comfortable with the stick.

    multilple opponent sparring

    Chad,

We do a lot of this type of sparring, up to three against one. We do this with several different weapons. Training swords (sticks) long knives (bolos) small knives, and empty hand. All of our training is geared to the worst case. Empty hand against at least three opponents with multiple weapons.

I suggest that you go back and start slowly maybe quarter speed and light strikes. Three strikes at the most with each attacker. This allows you time to get accustom to the continous onslaught of strikes and to use footwork to position yourself to have to deal with only one attacker at a time. Build up to half speed and power. Once you can handle this then move up in speed, then add power. One thing you don't want to do is spend any amount of time with any one attacker. Great training and really gets the heart and mind going.
Use footwork and learn how to control the different attackers bodies against each other. Throw one into the other. Take a hostage and use like a shield then dispatch them.

Let us know how it goes

I love that sentence. Almost too much. I have the "grins" now.
