    Liberty,

Good question. It is because the title of the forum is JKD discussion. But increasingly it is apparent that what I know as JKD is not what most here think of as JKD. Evidently dissenting views are not allowed here. Worse if your view deviates from what the “Guru” is though to have said.

By the by, I think they have misunderstood their “Guru." I do not believe that Sifu Dan has portrayed the history in the way that it has been stated by his followers here. If he were to come to this forum using a pseudonym, and repeat what he has already said in print, they would crucify him as a heretic.

The LA school has eclipsed the other branches of the tree in terms of the number of instructors and students, and now those instructors and students want to prune off the other branches of learning. This must be human nature because it seems to be repeated with every religion.

Funny how Bruce foresaw all of this and closed the Seattle and LA schools (Oakland was effectively closed following Sifu James death).

Good luck on the pathless path Liberty. I have been impressed with your ability and interest in researching the art.

Sooo... Anywho..... sfolk, how was your class with Chris. I've been a little busy, but had I gotten on here in the past month I would have endorsed him or Bob Shott in Canton, OH. Both Magda Instructors and all around good guys.

His class was great. Unfortunately it's about 40 min each way and I don't think I can get it worked out. Bob's place is about the same distance. I've found another place called TFC Wellness under Jeff Tyler who has trained under Richard Bustillo that has a JKD Concepts class and it's only 20 min from me. It doesn't have the same structure as the Magda school but it's still pretty cool. I went to a class this past Thurs and thoroughly enjoyed it. They have Bustillo scheduled to come in for a seminar in April.

Maybe you can make it to either Bob's or Chris's when Sifu Cass is in for seminars June 28-29ish and Sept 13-14ish respectivly. At least I think those are the dates. My memory isn't always the best when it comes to numbers.

That would be cool. I'll keep an eye out for the details.

It's funny. I really disagree with your views on JKD, but I agree with what you say there. Dissenting views aren't very popular here.

But, please keep in mind, dissenting views aren't popular anywhere...

If you step forward to say something in dissent, expect to be disliked and hated by some of the smallest minds around. Even those who agree with you are unlikely to step forward and back you.

It's really not such a big deal. Sticks and Stones, right?

Bro, 40 minutes is not such a long drive for training. Trust me.

If I were single and/or no kids it wouldn't be an issue. The closer class just fits my schedule better. If it were later at night I'd be more than happy to make the 40 minute trip. I'm also looking at training with a guy who does harimau silat that is 40 min away from me and that will be from 10-11 at night which works out great.
