Dear Mr. Michael Thau ,
I am one of Bruce Lee big fans from Italy (where filmed Way of The Dragon!!!). It’s a great honor for me to write this letter to you.
I would like to request your involvement in a new Game of Death special edition DVD. I have hoped and pray for this moment to come true for so long…
I hope you will read this letter of mine to understand and feel what your fans are really expecting from this special edition: this would be the real Bruce Lee’s vision of the movie, not Robert Clouses’s 1978 version, nor international Artport cut, or, even worst, the scenes relegated into a bonus materials section of John Little's Warrior's Journey. Probably this would be the last chance to create a True version of the masterpiece Mr Lee give us!… and it’s all in your hands, and Golden Harvests’s too, of course. But the reason why I am writing you this letter is that I, and lots of people with me can’t imagine better hands then yours to make this dream come true. And I would like to catch this opportunity to ask you to cut this version as closest as possible to the Mr. Lee’s and Mr Krishnamurti wonderful philosophy. I would also like to call your attention on important points that I think on the original project were different, as I know that for this movie Mr Lee didn’t actually shoot all the scenes he had expected to. But I think it should be possible for you to keep part of Clouses’s materials and with CGI help and Golden Harvest/Warner Bros effort create the Lee vision, a new masterpiece, the movie we all are expecting.
I would love if you could take and re-cut Clouse’s materials only where there's no Lee's shot materials, for example, as far as I know, the battle city and the Pagoda exterior scene.
Please cut out all Tong Lung aspects from the "1978 movie" . I think, it doesn't make sense in this movie to keep moments of this kind, but obviously you know that better than me.
Please cut out the Motorcycle sequence, terrible scene and too much cartoonish! I didn’t find any consistency with the first Bruce Lee movies, where there were some great comedy aspects but not in that mood.
I trust you, and I know you’ll find another solution for the villains to learn the truth about Bruce Lee and his sister
Perhaps re-dubbing one dialogue line on the airport scene, or in the Popju-sa pagoda’s scene...(please cut this scene in a faster way to eliminate all comedy aspects, where’s possible, of course).
I would also suggest to cut out all the worst and nonsense new characters, seen in the theatrical version, like:
Dean Jagger and Hugh O'Brien, appearing and disappearing of “Lee double and Carl Miller (Bob Wall)” . I would prefer to see only the Lee he’ve give us in the first one, thanks to the Bruce Lee “Verisimilitude concept”; Nothing more.
No Chuck Norris reused battle from way of The Dragon.
It should be wonderful, if you can create the climax scene, never shot, about Bruce Lee (Hai Tien) going around the pagoda (to rule it), and destroying key fighters; it would be very simple to create this scene today, with CGI help ( like star wars special edition, but overall star trek the motion picture, where Mr Wise created new special effect, but similar to the old special effects).
Bey Logan could loop the lines of this never shot scene, or perhaps, it could be possible to take Bruce Lee’s lines and shots from the Canadian (Pierre Berton) interview., and use CGI to reproduce key Buddhist monuments and flying villains CGI doubles, to put together this scene.
This is an important scene to understand the drama of the movie that Lee wanted to give us. The story scale comes up only in this way. Please create this scene, please... the vision of this movie was bigger and larger than in Clouse's version.
These villains rule the entire pagoda, not only levels 3,4 and 5...and, in my opinion, it’s very important to let this concept comes out.
I can only imagine the strong contrast of seen Bruce Lee and Colleen Camp love moments alternated with villains destroying monuments around the Buddhist village, and when we’ll finally come to the “airport kidnapping” we will truly see the drama, as Lee and George Lazenby has planned.
I would also suggest to cut the “plastic surgery”, it doesn’t make sense. And I’m sure you share my thought.
It should be better letting Colleen Camp keep her memory. Personally I like the idea of Colleen knowing, and it's a fitting ending that is all ready for inclusion in the Lee version.
Please, give us the original Lee opening sequence of the movie, use the original concept of showing the bamboo bending and yielding in the snowstorm, while the rigid tree breaks ...... , use Mr. Lee’s scenes with new special effects but similar to the original effects use in Enter the Dragon, Bruce and Colleen make love scene in the Hong kong, and the goodbye after destroying the Pagoda… and the extended Kareem Abdul Jabbar scene and we will love your fine work.
I hope and pray Golden Harvest and Warner to convince John Barry to come back and re-score the movie.
It’s very important that Raymond Chow and Allen Horn think about this project in terms of restoring the original vision of the movie to dispose to new generations a masterpiece; because Enter The Dragon wasn’t only a movie or a blockbuster, but it was and it is today even more, a worldwide culture phenomenon. So I hope Golden Harvest will give us now, with this project, the last part of the masterpiece philosophy Bruce Lee.
Please, this is the last chance, to do it. I’m sure if Golden Harvest/Warner let the Bruce Lee's cut rise, they will be re-paid of all costs and efforts, I’m truly convinced about it.
I trust you! You can bring our dream comes true. Please listen to your fans voices!
I’m writing you to let you know that Italian fans are with you, like all your fans around the world.
Thanks for your great work on Bruce Lee movies. without you we will never see the real version come true.
Please do it for Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Danny Inosanto, Ji Hon Jae and overall for movie history.
Thanks a lot.
a devoted fan
