  • Lin sil die da

After several weeks of isolating Boxing and upping the level of contact, I've found that tactics such as Lin sil die da and limb-destruction are actually more functional durring harder sparring. I believe the reason for this is that whether or not these tacitcs score or not is a function of the commitment of the blow. Harder contact generally means more commitment. I had much more success with aggressive defense when someone is really trying to take my head off.

    Any thoughts or other observations?

    gungfuhero,

Isn't the process of discovery in JKD an awesome thing?

    I agree with you 100%

I tried a "new" drill Wednesday night. I had my training partner wear a boxing glove on one hand and a focus mitt on the other. When he fired a punch I would simultaneously parry and punch. The only minor drawback is that I knew which hand was going to punch. The next step I want to try is using the motorcycle helmet as the target.

The key to interception and aggressive defense is a relaxed mind and body.

        Hey gungfuhero,

Here is a twist to that same drill......

        Have your partner punch

As soon as you read it

Intercept it with your parry and punch. As in, move in with your entire body while you are executing the parry and punch.

        It teaches structure disruption.
Penetration, Body unity, and timing is the key. Everything at once.

Movement was implied (Most Sifu will tell you not to trust a parry alone), but not always necessary.

You can modify the drill by intercepting the punch and being ready to cover the punch if it still has any juice on it after the stop hit.
