I see, I would suggest you continue your TKD training or if you not practicing it currently get back into some type of stand up art for a start i.e (TKD, Kickboxing, Kenpo, Boxing) Don't worry that its not JKD. I am suggesting this because a good instructor should be able to help you with the basic concepts of punches, kicks, grabs etc. The same with a grappling class later down the road. While your taking classes you can then explore the world of books and videos. I would suggest the Tao of Jeet Kune Do, BJ Penn's Book of knowledge, The Filipino Martial arts (by Dan Inosanto) as far as books go.
...As far as videos go, Tommy Carruthers, JKD (Dan Inosanto) JKD (Paul Vunak) Bas Ruttens has a lot of good material, Frank Cucci and so on. Just absorbing various material by different authors and looking at the arts from thier point of view and then either applying it or not is the essence of JKD. You can start with that and then later explore the ground game. Get in a class if you can and get the basics and then go on your own. You can check out stuff like Gracie Dvds, Sakuraba has a dvd, Bruce Corrigan and so on.
