  • Thinking about buying a book

I've been thinking about buying Larry Hartsell's "Jeet Kune Do: Entering to Trapping to Grappling." Have any of you read it? Have opinions on the book? On Hartsell? Is it a good buy?

Yea I have that book. It's Ok. The book is basically all black and white photograph sequences of a bunch of techniques like in a karate mag. There is very little written text at all and minimal explanation if any on the technques. The book will show you a lot of stuff but will give very little about the details and finer points of all the techniques. Some of the stuff in there is pretty cool. But a lot of the stuff in that book in my opion is really old. For example some of the leg locks and ankle twists and stuff he shows in there are done more "Karate" style than BJJ or NHB style if that makes and sense.

I personally have never gotten that much out of a MA technique book. I think your better of just finding some good people to work out with, or getting some good tapes. I think Matt Thornton's Series one and two are great...Of course the tapes cost a bit more.
