What is the straight blast I hear people talk about?

The straight blast, much like other trapping range tools, is hard to do with boxing gloves on. They take up too much volume and can screw with your fine motor movements. I basically spar my stand up two ways: with boxing gloves and shin pads, or using bag gloves with a helmet fitted with a face protector cage. Bag gloves are way less cumbersome (sp?) and facilitate better trapping. The face cage keeps you from breaking your partner's nose since bag gloves do little more than protect your knuckles.

Hello,
In JKDU Burton teaches us what we call the "boxing blast" it is basically a cross, step forward with the same foot on the side you crossed with, then cross again, step and keep going. Stay on your toes and the foot work etc. is the same as the "regular" blast.
You can generate more power with the boxing blast as a general rule. Anyway, the blast only lasts for about 4-10 punches then the opponent will change range due to him falling down, moving to the side, covering and holding ground, or going into grappling.
So always train to flow off of the blast according to range.
