check out www.kyokushinmail.com/koya/kyokushin.htm Mas Oyama was a great teacher. He taught full contact way before Bruce came about. He used to scare the crap out of me. He was a short pudgy Japanese man with big hands and feet(Crazy son of gun would break them with a hammer). Very powerful. Whenever he came over to our dojo he would have one of us get a rock and would break it for us. He fought bulls by hand and killed many of them with one blow. We sparred full contact--no protective equiptment at all. There were a lot of knockouts and injuries but that came with the territory. When he first came over he fought many people from different styles--even wrestlers. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 people. I remember his favorite saying was" If their styles are so good why not prove it in real matches".
There are some old video clips of him sparring and fighting bulls.He was about 50 at the time I trained under him in New York. He would do two finger pushups, break rocks and boards for us. He even fought 400 of his best students in three days just to prove his fighting skill to us. He was fanatical, just like Bruce. To be honest though, Bruce would have taken him in a fight--just too damn fast. I didn't realize the old man passed away a few years back. Too bad, I would have liked to go back and visit for old times sake. I think one of the clips shows him breaking off a horn of a bull. A lot of his stuff was banned over here in America though.
