Yeah, that shit pisses me off!
But the world used to be worse, hard as that is to believe.
The Aztecs used to engage in the War of Flowers. This was ritual warfare, designed to feed the gods human blood into the soil of the Earth. They routinely sacrificed boys and girls by skinning them, so the high priest could wear the skin as a coat and mask. One insident recorded a ruler being tricked into offering up his own daughter! Skulls would pile up by the hundreds at the foot of their pyramids.

I won't even tell you what the Porteguese and the Mongols did, nor the Vandals, the Romans, and our own vaunted forefathers!
Humans can be a sick bunch, but times are actually better, at least in North America and the rest of the English-speaking world.
We're not really that ****ed up here. Bad, sure, but not that ****ed up. We have to keep perspective.
Beware the media. They feed on the sensational. It's how they get paid. The same things happened last year, at a higher rate, but no one said anything except for Chandra Levy (rest her soul).
Keep an eye on your kids. Know where they are and where they are going. Know their friends and their friend's parents. Don't invite strangers into your home -- not salesmen, not anyone -- without checking them out. When your child reaches six years of age, start training them in the martial arts. Teach them the standard safety stuff. Remember, we have to protect them against more than child molesters. We have to protect them against their own ignorance as well, especially when very young. Poisoning kills more kids every year than murder!
You should be just as pissed off when you hear of a child dying of Drano poisoning because some careless twit left it in easy reach with the cap off.
