This is a jeet kune do discussion forum and yet nobody has recommended jkd as a martial art (traitors).

JKD offers a bit of everything so you save money not going to 2 classes i.e. muay ti and bjj.

      Actually . . .

Most of us have been recommending JKD! JKD isn't Jun Fan. But Jun Fan is JKD. BJJ, Thai, and even Greco-Roman Wrestling can all be JKD. It is a mindset, guided by certain principles.

True, there are advantages to taking Jun Fan Gungfu, and I enjoy practicing it. However, Mlindsey must take what is available.

I wouldn't recommend traveling, say, 300 miles, just to practice Jun Fan, when you can cross train next to your house. All Jun Fan is a methodical way of cross-training in MA. It is an illustration of JKD principles.

It's not like the other arts produce bad fighters, and simpleton thugs. It is a matter of attitude and commitment. A judoka, with the proper mindset, open-minded curiosity, and right amount of discipline can become an awesome warrior.

Most warriors that are very good have a little JKD in them, even if they don't know it. After all, that is the point. Whatever works for you.

      Respect.

i've taken KARATE, JIU JITSU BRAZILIAN & JAPAN, JUDO, BOXING, MUAY THAI, ROMAN GRECO, AKIDO.. KUNG FU,

MOST OF IT IS CRAP EXCEPT FOR BOXING AND THAI BOXING, BRAZILIAN & GRECO, MOST JIU JITSU... IS GOOD..

        KUNG FU CRAP

        KARATE CRAP

        AKIDO CRAP..

in my akido class i was taking they didn't let me box. i couldn't throw a western style punch (regular jab) and when the teacher told a student "hit me" the student threw a jab and hit the teacher in the face, the teacher said "no no .. not like that.. punch me like this".. i was like.. mannnnn! fortget this class...

karate was weak too. too much same movements, controdictred everthing i was tought about defense. too much open for kicks and punches...

kung fu was taking too long. i aint gonna wait 10 years just to learn martial arts..

a good kung fu martial arts is the one where you can box kick and slam each other. i forgot the name of that martial arts..it's pretty cool. but other then that..

bjj, boxing and thai boxing are good.

This is where you get hit with the "its not just about fighting, its about self development" bollocks.

Martial Artists should learn how to fight. They can do all the self enlightenment they want to, but if there system can't fight it is a bit like a classic car enthusiast who states he has the "best" car, even though it will not start........

Let's not put the cart before the horse. Let's not put cherries on a cake before we have a cake....... Martial Arts are Fighting Arts first, if you don't have that, you don't have a martial art.

Mind you, Aikidoka can take swords off people.........Yeah, right!
