In pictures 3,5 and 8 it looks as though a finger jab to the eyes is being used. How the heck can this technique be used on someone wearing glasses like the person in the pictures.

I KNEW PEOPLE WOULD HAVE OPIONIONATED RESPONSES BUT...
OH NO HIS GLASSES MIGHT BREAK MY FINGERS! You've got to be kidding! You understand English? These are just "POSED PICS". And if they were real it would of been easy enough to switch it to a palm strike, or vertical punch anything else I felt at that moment, the difference is about a half a step. I uploaded the pics because somebody mentioned doing it and its a good idea because all anybody does in here is TALK! If you can't figure things out and need someone to take you by the hand an explain every detail, then what the "HECK" are you doing in JKD! I'm sure you believe in "the concept of JKD", but the "concept" isn't complete without any of the original technique! You can talk all you want, but I aint hearin' it! Upload your pics and show me! That’s what the "attach file:" button is for!! Nothin' but Talk!!
They are just pictures of posed basic technique, nothing more, nothing less!
Just take a deep breath and relax akja. But if I were to make pictures on specific technique I would only show techniques that are usable on the person assisting me with presenting them. Also, all we can really do here is talk, its a forum, that's what we do. But enough with this bickering, I apologize if I offended you.

Post a pic and get some flak, I expect that! I knew posted pics of me would be almost like instigating something. My truth is, the glasses aren't a factor in street combat. An eye jab performed effectively is like the second half of the name implies, to jab. To be followed by something that fits the situation, likely a punch. In a normal situation, an attacker is at minimum going to flinch, leaving an opening for your choice of attack. In the case of the glasses, an eye jab isn't quite appropriate, “except to be posed to demonstrate”. But in any case, the attacker still will flinch in some way because his glasses are going to be moved possibly broken or knocked off of his head. Maybe your opening will be cut a little shorter in time but the opening does exist. What I do is usually 2 or 3 moves ahead like they do in BJJ. It’s not something that easily can be understood in conversation but a lot of people in here will look at picture and see what techniques will follow. That’s the way I train, you do this, I do that. Offense is defense, defense is offense. That’s a quote from my Sigung and he lives and teaches by it. Some people will instantly know what I'm talking about. Others need a more time to let it sink in. Me, before JKD, I came from Karate, I needed the training day in and day out, then one day, I realized that I understood "offense is defense, defense is offense". If anybody says it doesn't make sense, then our JKD is different, we are on different paths. So if we train differently, an easier way visualize it is BJJ practices the same concept. They take action that leads to not one move but 2 or 3 and for each there are several variations. That’s what it is, a way of Gung-Fu training with techniques that couldn’t possibly "all" be named because you would be putting a limit on your training. What I mean is why try to name them Tech.#'s 1-25 when they are actually endless. You don't react tech #1 for a situation. You react what you react.
The pictures of me are just basic entrys, that’s all. I personally like to start in the clinch. My Sifu taught well from outside to inside. The "four corners", the outside and inside high and low gates. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu taught me my ground work. So today my 5 ranges are 3 main ranges and 2 sub-ranges. The 3 main are: 1) Outside trapping range. 2) Inside clinch range. 3) Ground grappling range. The 2 sub-ranges are: 1) trap to clinch and 2) clinch to ground. That’s why I prefer to work in the clinch range and work into either range or “my comfort zone” where I've had great instruction. Today people lose faith in their arts because they think situations like a "clinch or takedown" will beat them, instead of using what they know and modifying and adapting, they say Karate won't work, I'm throwing away 5 years. Life is too short to throw any of it away!
SO WHY AM I SAYING ALL THIS? BECAUSE THIS IS MY THREAD!!!
I EXPECT FLACK! LIFE WOULD BE BORING IF WE DIDN'T EVER QUESTION ANYTHING!

eye glasses no problem strike under then thru removing the glasses or eye rake and it will remove the glasses. tools are tools when they work. trapping does not work as easy in combat but can still be useful if understood and finding it timing. the pictures show the trapping in the training phase good form . Step it up to resistive traps and that will make them more practical. the partner returns his punching arm and resisits your traps. if followed back the arm is easyer trapped. But punch or strike then trap as nessasary will work better. try this if your not already doing so. Remember bruce said hit hit trap hit again. Traps are second to strikes. Keep the work going your on your waY.

“Akja, have you and "big bear" ever fought and/or sparred with each other?”-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That reminds of 2 questions that I would always hear. This goes way back. They would say. Can you kick over my head? Can you block my punch? I would say, I'll block your punch, if you block mine first! If you initiate a challenge, then be ready for what the challenge brings! Don't take offense to what I say. So what, you say , I say. Get to the point. One liners don't say anything. If you have something to say say it! As far as your question.......
Why would you even ask that? I understand the spar, but fight?
I said they were posed pics of basic technique. English doesn’t get anymore clear than that! But since you asked, he is a student, a new student. YOU should have been able to see that by just looking at his hands placement throughout the pics. Second, I never stated that me or any other 5'7" 160 lbr. could take a 6'4" 320 lbr. I see where your headed. Trapping takes time. If we sparred there is no way it would resemble anything like what is trying to be taught. If you are an instructor then you would know that! If you read Roberts comment after yours, you would have seen that there is a lot more to trapping than showing a couple traps and saying lets spar! I'm not sure if he even understands the difference between a trap and a block. Sparring has its place! But if a new student is going to spar, all he's going to be able to do realistically is box. As far as sparring goes, I’ve stated in several of the threads that I felt there was a weak area in "my fighting" and that’s why I practiced bjj for a few years here in San Jose. Do you know why, Siegfried? For exactly a guy like him!! Trapping doesn’t work on everybody or every situation, no technique does. But it s a valuable tool that needs to be understood before it could be used! As far as the real fights, I have several when I was young and as an adult I had several more mostly in jail. Oh Yeah, I was NEVER fortunate enough to fight anyone my size!! IF you read m profile I stated that I've been in the martial arts "off and on" since 1973. I have no reason to mislead. I could of just as easily left out the "off and on". But I didn't because I was incarcerated for several years during the "80's. I hear a lot about self discovery. Try and come back from hell! That was then and this is now and it dosn't belong here. We are here on the same playing field. I'm not that person and I can fight. You throw out the rules and the controlled environment and it doesn’t matter "what size", that’s not an issue. The issue is if that big guy can fight! That’s where the problem lies. If that’s a problem for you, then you need to quit training or get a better instructor! I’M SURPRIZED THAT’S ALL YOU CAME UP WITH! IF YOU WANT YOU CAN SHOW ME! OR YOU CAN KEEP ON TALKING LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE! IT IS A FORUM................................THAT ALLOWS YOU TO UPLOAD YOUR PICTURES!!!

ALSO I never implicated in any way that any system or method was better is better or foolproof or any other nonsense you about to come up with. Trapping is one range. Read it O-N-E, one! This is a Jeet Kune Do forum and my Sigung is a part of the “real history”, not the conceptual aspects of JKD. Anybody can conceptualize and not no shit!
If you read anything I've preached, you read that I teach and practice all ranges! I practice all ranges together because they need to be understood as one! If you can't flow from any range (I DIDN'T SAY ART, I SAID RANGE) freely then by today’s standards your art has holes in it!!! So do how do you learn "all ranges"? The best way is to learn from someone who specializes in each range! You learn them individually and put them together to fit as a martial artist. That’s where I've been and that’s what I do. I've burnt some bridges because my Instructors eventually come at me with a question that no one wants to hear. I'm going to quote my Gung-Fu Instructor for 2 reasons. For a single art he was by far the best Instructor I’ve ever had and he came right out and asked me the question too many times! He asked me. "When are you going to quit Jujitsu?" I didn't want to answer. Eventually I told him "I'm not ever going to quit Jujitsu!" We could learn a lot from a lot of instructors who are stuck on one range. Just because we teach and practice all ranges, it does not mean that we have more to offer. WE ARE JUST OFFERING SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE ELSE ISN'T, MAYBE WITH A NEW TWIST. THAT YOU WON'T KNOW WITHOUT THE PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE. You guys haven't seen anything from me yet. I will upload pics here and there! That’s me. I don't care what theories that somebody is trying to tell me! Theories are in the mind and need to be proven with the body!!
YOU CAN'T PROVE ANYTHING OVER A COMPUTOR!! YOU CAN JUST SHARE YOUR THEORY!! So, you and I are actually on the same playing field no matter what anybody says. I posted the pics and people are going to come at me! NOT A PROBLEM! I'M NOT GREAT! BUT I AM A PROBLEM SOLVER! If all you've got is negative talk, then its just caca! Simple shit! Realistically, if someone posts a "posed basic technique", a realistic response would be: after the eye jab I attack the throat, or if I trap high I prefer to attack low, then high, or whatever. NOT THE BIG GUY IS WHEREING GLASSES, I CAN’T JAB THROUGH THE GLASSES! That’s weak! If you’ve got something positive “to talk” about, I’d like to learn. But if you “talk”, say something! Don’t assume that I can’t make “my art” work unless you are going to show me better! That’s why they have the ATTACH FILE BUTTON!!! THAT GOES FOR ALL THE OTHER SMART ASSES!!! THIS THREAD WAS STARTED WITH PICTURES!!! IF YOU WANT TO BRING IN NEGATIVETY. THEN COME ON IN WITH YOUR SORRY ASS PICTURES!!!
I was just wandering how you and "big bear's" method of fighting was different. And, ALRIGHT ALREADY! I now understand what you were trying to do with the pictures. They were simply posed techniques. Meaning that glasses or no glasses it doesn't make a difference. O.K., I am just new to the concept of "posing pictures". I applaud you for even putting pictures on the forum in the first place, it makes things much more interesting. But, I have nothing to prove to you.

Siegfried, except what I have to offer, an apology. I get hard when I get pushed and a lot of that happens in here! I have nothing that hasn't been seen or created by someone else before. Given the age of the martial arts, the only new thing out there is the way we train. I really was hoping for insight from people who train similar. SORRY for coming off wrong!!
